Welcome to our 'Tales of the Unexpected' Edition
David Cunninghame, Group Content & Social Media Manager
My name is David Cunninghame and in my new role as Group Content & Social Media Manager at Matthew Algie, I look forward to editing many editions of the Coffee Extract and sharing with your the fascinating stories that arise from my first foray into the coffee industry. I may have only been at Matthew Algie for a matter of weeks, but one thing about this company above all others has become abundantly clear: the passion each member of staff has for the work they do and the products they produce. It has been a whirlwind few weeks, with a tour of the Glasgow roastery, an introductory coffee school course (my latte art skills will need some more work), a trip with the John Muir Trust to the Scottish Rainforest, attending the Glasgow Coffee Festival and time spent getting to know my fantastic colleagues.
I have a lot to learn over the coming months, with many brilliant stories to uncover, which leads me nicely onto the theme of this edition: Tales of the Unexpected. Yes, there is an inordinate amount for me to discover about Matthew Algie and wider coffee industry, but even to the seasoned pros among you, what you’re about to discover in this issue may come as a surprise. From unique café locations, to unorthodox processing and training methods, tea growing in Northern Ireland and the curious by-products of our coffee production, this issue is bound to pique your curiosity.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed compiling it.
